Sodium is used in streetlamps. They contain sodium vapor, which glows orange-yellow when electricity is sent through it. Sodium also glows this color in flame.
Sodium can be extracted from salt by use of a Down's Cell. In one of these, electricity goes through salt which has been melted at 1760 degrees F (800 degrees C).
